ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Surely everyone will remember the famous photo from September 20, 1932, portraying construction workers at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, on their lunch break, suspended 800 feet (243 meters) above the ground.
Well, I wanted to try my hand at a very personal reinterpretation of the work in the style of “Still Life”, using everything and anything (Fisher dowels, nuts, washers, screws, wire, pieces of plastic, cardboard, pieces of heat-shrink wrap, even an electrical faston to make the bottle), rummaging through the toolbox.
The work took its time, but I must say that creating the little men with all those pieces was enjoyable and fun. Equally challenging was creating the seat beam and its support, for which I received help from a dear friend.
The city background was taken from a photo I found online, then retouched and printed for the final purpose.
Preparing the home photo set with certainly not professional lights did the rest and after several attempts to find the right height of the characters and the "correct" lighting, here is the final result.
