Conceptual: Honorable Mention 2025 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
On May 31, 2025, during a modern dance show, some ballerinas were dancing on stage with a video in the background depicting the waves of the sea. Using a slow shutter speed, my intention was to merge the ballerinas and the waves in order to create a dramatic image. Only after seeing the black and white version did I think of the “infernal” title and decided to pay homage to the literary masterpiece of the great Italian poet.
The good news is that in Dante's masterpiece there is no hell for ballerinas!
AUTHOR
I am 65 years old and have been passionate about photography since I was a child. Like many amateur photographers, I have photographed any subject, but only now that I have retired do I have the time to create the images I have always wanted. I am inspired by the paintings of the European Impressionist period, in particular Paul Cezanne. I love blurry, out-of-focus images, brush strokes of light that only partially define the subject and leave the task of completing the narrative to the imagination. I have always loved the painter Giorgio Morandi and his still life paintings, which I have tried to rework in a more modern way in my photographs. I have never won prizes in photography competitions.
