Photographed from above, the city feels paused — caught in a breath between dusk and motion. The buildings become characters in their own right: stoic, angular, indifferent. Their facades glow where the sun allows it, retreat into darkness where it does not. Light and shadow don't just fall — they choose.

This view of New York feels closer to a painting than a photo. Hopper would have recognized this: the isolation within proximity, the theatre of windows, the cold honesty of straight lines and vertical ambition.

It’s a portrait of the city stripped of its noise. No sirens, no crowds, no movement — just the silent weight of glass and steel held in perfect balance by light.

Somewhere far below, millions carry on in motion, unaware of the stillness captured above them.

This is the quiet side of Manhattan.
The part that doesn’t shout, doesn’t sell, doesn’t demand.

Born and raised in The Netherlands in 1983, I was fascinated by natural light in all its forms since a young age.
Now working as a pilot, flying all over the world, I always have my camera with me to immortalize the world around me, be it from the cockpit or at destinations that I am fortunate to visit.
