Portrait: Honorable Mention 2025 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Today, tattoos have blossomed into an amazing form of self-expression. The reasons for getting a tattoo are as diverse as the individuals who wear them—whether it's to honour loved ones, celebrate personal milestones, or simply indulge in a creative aesthetic choice. For many, tattoos represent a beautiful type of body art, allowing them to embellish their skin with stunning visuals that truly reflect their inner selves.
This picture of Matt was taken a few years ago in my mancave studio. He's a strong advocate for the idea that you don't have to be a biker, a rebel, or a tough guy to enjoy tattoo culture. His enthusiasm for the art on his body is infectious, and he has a captivating story for every design etched on his skin.
The time, effort, and investment he's made (around $25,000) is truly remarkable.
AUTHOR
I started out in photography late in life and still kick myself when I think of all the opportunities missed. After all I spent 20 years in the Royal Australian Navy and then worked in expat jobs in Africa and PNG. It wasn't until I purchased a decent camera to go on a holiday to Europe with my wife in 2013 that I took a more serious interest. Each of the 'My Work' pages will tell you more about what images I like to capture. I'm still developing as a photographer, and I just need to match the constant inspiration I see with the notion of getting out there amongst it.
