ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The Black Mount is the land rise that leads to Rannoch Moor and the start of the Scottish Highlands proper. It marks the gateway to wilderness, the road a steady climb up onto the Rannoch plateau where the barren undulating landscape stretches as far as the eye can see, and a traveller must cross this before they hit the savage cliffs of Glencoe. Look back from here and you are looking back at the foothills of the Highlands; the rolling hills hint at the drama and adventure hidden just over your shoulder. This image represents that coming experience; offering a sample of the wild landscapes that await an adventurer, the lochs and forest, the rocky slopes that disappear unending into the cloud, and the realisation that up there is exactly where you're headed.
