Landscape: Honorable Mention 2014 (amateur)
Devil's Punchbowl waterfall, Arthur's Pass by Reg Noyes (United Kingdom)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Whilst visiting my brother in New Zealand, I took a drive from Christchurch up to Arthur's Pass to see the national park then trekked up the many wooden steps to get to the Devil's Punchbowl waterfall. Spotting this single branch on it own, I had to lean out over the river to get the right composition; I was determined to position myself so that the branch was in the centre of the image, isolating it from the other foliage, which I wanted curved around the bottom left of the image, creating a natural foreground frame. I then slowed the shutter speed just enough to capture movement from the water whilst enabling me to keep the foreground in sharp focus.
This is the image taken on the day. It hasn't been Photoshopped or cropped. The photo was taken on a Nikon D80.
