Landscape: Honorable Mention 2014 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
These alien looking plants are called the Quiver trees, a species of aloe which grow in southern Namibia. I took this image using a Canon 14mm f/2.8 lens with EOS 5D MkIII camera. I planned the visit just after new moon so the sky is extraordinary dark and calculated the time for the Milky Way to be at this diagonal position. I light painted a chosen group of Quiver trees as the foreground interest and asked my wife who’s wearing a head torch to pose in the corner of the frame. I like the human figure in the composition as it not only convey a sense of scale but also the light beam projected towards the Milky Way gives a mysterious touch of feeling.
