Photomanipulation: Honorable Mention 2014 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
2013
a metaphorical place
To overcome the classic objective of photography - the creation of a snapshot in time - and thus to question its status as evidence the image is composed out of fragments from reality (i.e. the location, the objects surrounding the protagonist as well as the protagonist herself). Due to the fact that these elements could never co-exist in reality, its visual interaction creates its own little cosmos, in which the protagonist is challenged by her surroundings to not only reconsider the position she is at but also to open up to the unknown.
AUTHOR
After graduating from Ostkreuzschule for Photography in Berlin last year, I became an intern at CAMERA WORK Gallery in order to improve my organisational abilities and to learn more about the “other site” of photography – presenting and selling works. This summer I assisted photographer Jimmy Nelson in his studio at Rijksmuseum Volkenkunde in the Netherlands where he took portraits of the visitors of his exhibition “Leve de Mens” (Beforethey.com). Currently I am working towards becoming a freelance photographer, hoping to earn a living working with photography at some point because I am passionate about discovering the world surrounding me with my camera.
