Nude: Honorable Mention 2014 (professional)
AUTHOR
Born in 1978, I graduated at the Academy of Photography in Rotterdam, the Netherlands after having finished my pharmacy study and PhD.
My photographic work is intuitive, raw, yet very connected and always about people. I find my subjects in the public space or in their own personal living environment.
I graduated the academy of photography with my personal interpretation of the city of Rotterdam entitled ‘Temporal Existence’. Last year I was one of the 12 photographers asked to document the city of Rotterdam. I am author of the self-published photo book ‘Enigma’; a confronting series of images about daily life in India.
In December 2013 I was fortunate to follow a workshop led by Michael Ackerman in Paris. The work made during this workshop was commented on by Pauline Vermare of the international center of photography in New York: ‘Eli’s portfolio is a stunning ensemble of eclectic but cohesive photographs. Technically, visually and psychologically, this series bring a lot to the viewer. I appreciate that Eli left us, the viewers, alone with images only, and no words at all. The photographs are powerful enough that we do not need any subtext to read them. All in all I want to congratulate Eli for a very good work. A brilliant catharsis for the viewers, a dark but enjoyable trip…’
My recent solo-exhibition at Deelen Art Gallery, was curated by Sun Hee Engelstoft, also editor of Jacob Aue Sobol.
I am represented by Deelen Art Gallery (www.deelenart.nl).
