People: Honorable Mention 2014 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image is part of a series of photographs, just like many others I have developed in my home country Colombia, come to me as an interest for both comprehending and extracting a bit of the life of people from the rivers and oceans. In the attempt to get closer to what I view as a culture of life, I came to discover brand new aspects of the nature of fishermen, their spirit, their way of relating to the environment that surrounds them and their way of living every day.
AUTHOR
Born in Bogota, Colombia in 1974. Painter and Photographer. I currently live and work in the United States.
My artistic work has an early origin in painting, background that is reflected in the evolution of my photographic work.
After finalizing my art studies in the late 90's, I engaged into photography as a self-learning process. I started developing as a freelance photographer and simultaneously exploring alternate photographic processes.
My current photography work is centered in fine art. Deeply rooted in the Colombian culture and with a clear documentary tendency, I deepen into common every day stories, altering the visible truths in their realities and creating new surrealistic ones. I am interested in investigating the plastic possibilities of the characters I encounter and their ways to life, transforming them into my own fictional testimony in an image.
