Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2014 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Rain or shine and in hunger, survivors who could not afford to buy a ticket from commercial planes, stayed at the Tacloban City Airport for days trying to get a free plane-ride from Philippine and American Military C-130 planes. This after their homes were wiped out by storm surges caused by super typhoon Haiyan last November 08, 2013.
AUTHOR
Started as news photographer in 1992 for a newspaper in Cebu City, Philippines, and went freelance in 1999. With a film SLR and a negative scanner, I ventured to war-stricken Mindanao to document the conflict between the Philippine government and Muslim separatist in 2000, 2003 and 2005.
Last 2012, I earned my Diploma in Photojournalism at Kondrad Adenauer Asian Center For Journalism in Ateneo de Manila University.
From my rented abode near the sea I continue to do projects at my own pace.
