Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2014 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image was made on the beaches of Bahia, a neighbourhood just outside of Havana, Cuba, shortly after Fidel Castro's retirement in 2007. Here, an Italian tourist and a Cuban local play together on a deserted beach, although it is prohibited for a Cuban to interact with foreigners.
The younger generation in Cuba hopes for change in their government because they would like to live a freer life, with the flexibility to travel, work and speak with people from other countries. Perhaps through the retirement of Fidel Castro, this is attainable to them in the years to come.
