Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2014 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The surrounding green areas of Belo Horizonte have faced massive devastation in the last 40 years to give place to progress. Unaccounted was the fact that, with less green, there's less water retention and better conditions for fire to burn.
September and October can be pretty cruel. And dry.
This time it, a fire reached the radio/tvs towers in Belo Horizonte. Some people were trapped up there unable to exit because of smoke. The first firetruck that arrived at the scene was unable to climb the steep hill. This firefighter was asking for heli support.
AUTHOR
Born in Brasil 1983 I fell for photography in 2003 when my father gave me his old pentax k1000. Short after I enrolled in an art school in Italy to go deeper on darkroom photography, printing and chemicals. After returning to Brazil, due to the lack of materials to be found I started mixing my own developers and fixers. Recently I have also been working on emulsions.
