ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Taken in 2013 at Thien Hau Pagoda, Ho Chi Minh City.
It was blazing sunshine around midday and I had to set up the camera in the middle of the courtyard as the table with the pots of incense were also in the middle of the courtyard. I wanted to get the movement of the incense smoke but was having so much trouble with my exposure.
With an exposure of 0.6 sec at f/29, ISO 100 I think I just about managed it.
I took dozens of photos of this composition trying to get the moment the incense smoke looked balanced and harmonious as there was a massive swirling wind in the courtyard. Trying to get the shots in between tourists and locals walking in the frame was also a challenge as I was trying to be as respectful as possible of this holy place.
I have cropped the photo and used lens correction.
I converted to B/W using Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.
Camera used was a Nikon D90 with a 10.0-24.0mm f/3.5-4.5 lens shot at 24mm
I was also finding it hard to categorise this image. If you think this image is suitable for an alternative category could you please advise. This is the first photo competition I have ever entered.
