Photomanipulation: Honorable Mention 2015 (amateur)
Apollo served by the Nymphs - Versailles - Part II by Mercedes Parodi (United Kingdom)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This composition belongs to Part II of my Versailles project, which can be described as the creation of a celestial environment composed uniquely of abstractions of water, light and fire and within which the magnificent statues of Versailles are ‘mises en scène’.
'Apollo served by the Nymphs', sculpted by François Girardon and Thomas Regnaudin (1667-1675), is the central group of a triptych scene considered to be one of the masterpieces of French sculpture.
I was fortunate enough to be able to photograph the original group during an exceptional opening of the 'Petite Ecurie', where many of the original statues are now in conservation.
The creative magnitude of Versailles, inextricably linked to the vision and conceptual thinking of the Sun King, continue to inspire me as my photography evolves within this exceptional environment.
