Conceptual: Honorable Mention 2015 (professional)
Cogito. Ergo sum? by Francesca Guidi (Italy)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Metaphysics: μετά τα Φυσικά. Literally "after physics". What comes after the physics? How can photography, perfect art for the representation of reality, be able to transcend the ties of physics and allow the viewer to go beyond the surface of the image?
With this project I tried to give my personal answer looking, citing Marra, to "bring out a deep truth hidden through the crust of appearances."
The cleanliness is contrasted by the human element, represented by the dummy and the “severed” head.
A human being abandoned to their solitude, which has lost his values and references, whom ceased to think. A human being broken by the continued fragmentation and endemic superficiality that now characterizes social relations, which is likely to exfoliate the true unity of the individual, and undermines the his values and thought.
The head split in half just identifies the loss of rationality, the final goodbye to the free will and the connective tissue of sociality, sacrificed on the altar of social, opinions on hearsay and compliance at all costs. A human being without identity ideals that it skims the surface and does not bother to go deep, to see and observe the world around him, already plasticized by the constant commodification to which it is subjected in today's society.
AUTHOR
Francesca Guidi was born in La Spezia on May 28, 1988, she graduated from high school and began his college experience. Always attracted by artistic universe since adolescence begins to show her passion focusing on painting and writing. At age 22, while she was enrolled at the Faculty of Technical Sciences of Applied Cognitive Psychology in Rovereto, she had the first contact with photography. The first snow falls, and with a simple compact she decides to go out for a walk in the nearby park and immortalize those white flakes that always fascinated her.
She realized the lens of the camera was the right way to find peace and to share her vision of the world.
Since that day, Francesca started an intimate study of photography that will take her to take pictures during concerts and backstage.
Over time she realized the need of a solid basis of her passion and learn the art of photography in a professional way. In 2012 she decides to enroll at the Italian Institute of Photography in Milan and she participated in several collective exhibitions and performs some reports during the Salone del Mobile.
Lover of reportage photography, she prefers natural subjects, but in recent times she has come close to a more experimental photography centered on the human figure and the constant search for new ways of interpreting its complexity.
Francesca consider herself constantly evolving and see change as the main driver of the growth of all human beings and, more so, of every artist.
