ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Growing up in sub-rural Ireland which was heavily influenced by the catholic church was at times frustrating. I was a mischievous child, my sister and I would often play meaningless games as sibling of the age tend to do. We were told by our elders that we were being disrespectful and that we should be ashamed of our behavior.
I wanted to capture an image that would represent how my sister and I felt in our childhood years. Playfulness in an unwanted situation, free, but within the confides of the church doors.
The fighting Hares represent my childhood sibling relationship, playfulness, innocence and naivety. While the god fearing man within the background represents those who would fill the depicted church on Holy Sundays, stern, introvert and soaked in tradition. Both are tied together by the ever leading and empty isles of the cathedral.
AUTHOR
I am a self-trained visual artist from Donegal, Ireland. My work is based around the exploration of different characters and the physical landscape around them. I see creating and experiencing art as a way to enhance the human experience. I struggled to understand the implications of certain life events and through visual expression I am able to reflect upon these experiences with clearer vision and profound thought.
