Fine Art: Honorable Mention 2015 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This is part of a collection of photographs, called Brand New Relics, of abandoned buildings, structures and objects in the South Wales area, mainly in rural settings, whose original functions are unclear. They are artefacts now divorced from their original context and variously not significant, accessible or substantial enough to be given historical relevance by the institutions of 'Heritage'. I want the photographs to encourage the viewer, not only to consider what their original uses might have been, but also to create imaginary provenances for them. The intention is to bestow new identities on these relics' continuing presence in the landscape, ones that take account of their contemporary, associative meanings.
