Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2015 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
White Sands National Monument - New Mexico As I've explained in my previous entries, the desert, wow, one my main places - feels like home every time I am there. I'm most comfortable and productive in the Desert and the Eastern Sierras when it comes to photography. Anyhow, I titled this after a dinosaur because well, that's what it reminded me of when I first walked upon this dune. Made me think of my dad bringing me and my brother to the Berkeley Lawrence Hall of Science and seeing the dinosaur exhibits. I could see the back of a Brontosaurus slowly getting up from his slumber - sand drifting across the surface of his cracked skin as he rose from the earth. LOL. Something like that.
AUTHOR
First and foremost, I love what I do. I feel privileged to be able to make art every day and to share it with my clients. I began shooting at age 13, I'm now 38. Expecting my first baby in May 2016. We are not well-off, rich or whatever you'd like to call it. But I'm happy these days. Very happy. My passion for photography stems from my grandfather who was from Germany. He later immigrated to Montana, and then started his own family in San Francisco. My brother and I spent every other weekend flipping through old black and white photos in the basement of their home. I would follow him into his dark room and watch him mix chemicals onto paper - images would appear. I thought he was a magician. Those childhood years shaped me into the nomad traveler I am today. My grandfather taught me to look at life from all angles through a lens.
