Portrait: Honorable Mention 2015 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image was part of a series titled ‘One-Tenth of a Second’
We take just one-tenth of a second to judge someone and make our first impression. In
those first few milliseconds of perceiving something we not only unconsciously
comprehend what it is, but decide whether we like it or not: the "cognitive unconscious”.
The subjects for my study were men of different ages. After the shoot each participant was asked to answer a 10 question personality test. From this test they received a score 15 - 60+ which related back to a personality profile. The title for each image then became the participant’s score. This enabled the viewers to read that particular participant’s character profile.
The viewers could then decide whether it matched with their first impression. The aim of the study was to get people to question how they can sometimes judge another person on their looks alone.
