Architecture: Honorable Mention 2016 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Seat of the Regional Parliament of Castilla y León (Valladolid. Spain).
The seat of the Parliament should be most representative institutional building of a region or country. It is our understanding that architecture which originates from this commitment must make certain reference to both the area and the time in which it is "installed". It is for this reason that the Regional Parliament of Castilla y León should not fade into the urban background of the city by searching for formal parallelisms with other institutional buildings pertaining to the city's heritage, but rather should belong to the place in which it is situated, using as its context this very expression of place.
The idea is a sober, predominantly horizontal structure comprising a white concrete plinth accentuated only by the volume housing the Plenary Hall, the outside of which is used to protect a balcony platform, the only part of the faÇade open to the south-east and the entrance to the building for those attending the plenary session.
Architect: Ramón Fernández-Alonso Borrajo.
