Conceptual: Honorable Mention 2016 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This is a portrait from my conceptual series "Masks" and the concept is the following:
"We all tend to wear masks when we relate to others, and to raise protective shields. A mask to hide the bare essence of our true face, to deny to the world who we are. And what we are is nothing but what we feel. We are our feelings.
For unconscious mechanical, or for wished act, this is one of the few means of defense, natural and elementary, of which we are capable. A sensitive and irreversible process that we activate automatically as a reply to very painful experiences of the life. We saturate the space around us with barriers and shadow, we feel protected and comforted in them and by them. We hide and deny ourselves, because we don't want to expose the fragility of our skin, because we have fear to reveal to our interlocutor the evidence of the vulnerability of our soul. I photographed people and landscapes, filling and crowding the space, filling and crowding the distance between the camera lens and photographed subject (individual/identity inscrutable) with glasses, mirrors, bars, hands ... trying to attain an allegorical representation of the same idea of mask. Mask as allegory of our defense needs. Mask as protection we wear, even at the risk, for perverse dynamic, to identify ourselves in it and become ourselves our own fake face."
