ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This photograph was taken on my father's Nikon FM2 in the summer of 2013 in Ravello, Italy. Though my family is Jewish, I love exploring Churches, both grand and intimate. The subjects of this photo are light, imperfect, and most importantly, quiet. There is beauty in simplicity. I believe my experience in this Church as a nonbeliever gave me a unique perspective to focus on the forms and lights. There is a nondomininational spirituality here, but what matters is the simplicity, the absence of distraction.
AUTHOR
Kayla Tanenbaum was born, raised, and educated on the island of Manhattan. As such, she is naive and sheltered in the most privileged way. She is currently an MFA candidate in creative nonfiction t Columbia University's Graduate School of the arts, and where she also received her B.A. in English in 2014. She works as a tutor, dog walker, and freelance writer. She is drawn to photography as a refuge; when words fail her, frustrate her, and even rarely, bore her, she can lave her house, pick up an analog camera, and enter the world of images. She lives with her adopted mutt, Doug. If and when she gets out of New York City, she's usually surfing.
