Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2016 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Canayakin_Korkut01.jpg: I have to attend to many daily chores and my day job. I can rarely make photography trips. This day was a blessing. I have taken the decision to travel total 250 km to reach the Caumasee in Graubünden and blessed with a beautiful morning sun. In my day job, I use one of my pictures as a desktop picture and change it almost everyday. The light, diagonal lines, depth, dynamic range of this image captivates me so much that I cannot change it. I hope that it would generate the same feelings on You.
AUTHOR
I was born in Istanbul in 1965. Following my BS in biology, I have decided to study botany. In 1990, I matriculated in EIU in USA. While I was doing my MS in botany, I was also working as a teaching and research assistant and pursuing a second MS in computer sciences.
In 1995, I have decided to return back to Turkey. After running my business 13 years in Turkey, a Swiss company invited me to Switzerland to work together with them. I live in Switzerland since 2008.
My hobby of photography started when I received my first camera from my father at the age of 7. It was a black box vintage camera from Agfa. Ever since I love taking pictures. In year 2012, my wife and I had a baby girl. To take her photographs and films, I have decided to buy a DSLR. Before this, I have always used analogue cameras and point and shoot cameras. This process did not get me completely involved. I used to just take the pictures and send them for development and print. I did not know about the composition, differences among various light types. The results were just the souvenirs of the moment. With the digital photography comes the ability to get involved from the moment of decision to press the button to the final print.
My very long lasting snapshot photography mutated into a detailed endeavour. In the last four years, I worked on different photographic techniques, post processing and printing: digital and darkroom. One of the most amazing field I embarked on is alternative photographic techniques. They are tedious but allows me to touch my pictures even before they are visible: I print them not a machine or program. Now I am fully encapsulated by photography.
