Mystic River at Angkor Wat by Oliver Zaciu (United States)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Angkor Wat is surrounded by a square-shaped river that circles the temple. Across the banks, people wash their clothes and bathe. While the temple is regarded as a holy place that is carefully preserved, the area around it is inhabited by small communities that are very much a part of the nature and the history and demise of the Khmer Empire. After all, the river was man-made, yet seems as much a part of the Cambodian landscape as the temples that dot it.
