An old chinese woman is greeting me, the first foreigner in her life. The photo was taken 2009 in Zhenxiong, a small town in Yunnan province in south-west China.
AUTHOR
Born in 1946. First camera: an Agfa-Box – at the age of 12. A kind of spark: This was the inspiration for photography.
A few bowls and an enlarger in the bathroom – development of first monochrome films, first reprintings.
First journeys at the age of 16: Europe, North Africa: monochrome photography and - that was new – color photography... especially slides.
In 1978, first journey to Asia, Sri Lanka (Ceylon, at that times)... Caught by the fascination for Asia: landscape, kindness of the people, religions, culture.
New journeys to and within various Asian countries then followed each year – loaded with camera, backpack and dictionary: Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Myanmar (Birma), the Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Laos, India and Cambodia.
And finally China, the country which is the most interesting one for me - not Beijing or Shanghai but the Yunnan Province with its remarkable and exciting landscape and its enormous variety of ethnic minorities, which in fact is the largest variety throughout China.
Besides travel photography, I am interested in nude phtography, architectural photography, photography of landscape and portraiture.
After having "used up" one Canon FTb and several Canon AE1 models, at the moment, I am using a Canon EOS 1N, a Canon EOS 50E and Canon lenses from 24 to 300 mm, and a Hasselblad 501C with 2 lenses. Some time ago, I have also begun to take photographs with a Cambo SF 4x5 inch large-format camera.
