ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I was on the shores of lake Awasa and I decided to dedicate some time to photograph the blue eared glossy starlings, attracted by their beauty and their interesting behaviour. The Sun was setting on the lake and the atmosphere started to become magical, so I chose a location that had allowed me to have the water reflecting the last lights of the day in the background. The idea was to highlight that shady atmosphere, the perfect frame for the enticing eyes of the starling, with a dramatic black and white, despite the beautiful colors of the bird.
The eye, and the way it stands up in the composition and fits the atmosphere of the scene, is what I consider the strength of this image. As soon as I realized that the color and expression of the eyes could have made a beautiful black and white picture, I decided to set the camera for this shot, instead to focus more on the colors of the bird.
AUTHOR
Born and raised in Abruzzo, one of the wildest regions of Italy, I’m an amateur nature and wildlife photographer since a little more than 10 years. The interest for wildlife and photography was strong since childhood, even if, as a photographer, the spark that made me concentrate my activities only on nature and astrophotography arrived later after some years of interest in street and travel photography. Curiosity and the constant desire to learn and to take action in conservation, lead me to point my lens at different subjects, from the earth and its beings to the depths of the universe. With my photos I hope to sensitize people to the protection of endangered ecosystems and eventually increase their awareness to conservationist themes. Some of my photos has been featured in magazines and books and has been awarded in national and international contests.
