Architecture: Honorable Mention 2016 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Having realized a dream of moving to the US and in particular New England I spent 8 years wondering around NYC knowing that the city had been photographed to the nth degree. just trying to get a different perspective and taking hundreds of Photographs. it was not until my friend moved to Central Park south earlier this year that I was able to spend hours in the park. I had always loved the juxtaposition of the wildness of the park with the high rise in the background, so spending lots of hours in the park repeating my route to take exactly the same photograph in the changing seasons. then it was a case of spending hours playing with the images. putting them into B&W, dodging and burning, applying filters etc. and turning the images into something quite striking.
Once I had mastered the B&W park images I allowed myself to travel around and do the same to other parts of the city, the one of the trains in Penn station took about 6 to visits to find the station full of trains. The Flat iron building with the yellow cab; I know an image with a yellow cab has been exhausted, but it was one of those Photographs I had to take, a bit like the 'monument valley' Forest Gump photograph, i had to take that one too.
