Fine Art: Honorable Mention 2016 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Visiting the white continent was beyond inspiring for me, like know where else on our plant. The air is crisp clean and without a smell of any kind. As we sailed past towering icebergs and experienced animals that are so curious they would come over to me and peck at my backpack. The light was always beautiful and with only 3 hours of darkness. I was running on pure adrenaline and rested after our 11 days at sea. It was worth it and more.
The place we call Antarctica has an unparalleled beauty.
AUTHOR
Artist Quote:
"Seeing is an process of interpretations and feelings that seem to come from within, then the photograph is what makes me happy, like finding a five dollar bill in the pocket of my jeans after they've been through the wash."
Artist Statement:
When I set out to photograph I may have an idea in mind, but experience has showed me that if I really explore what I set out to shoot and let what I have inside to emerge, and be part of the photo process, what will come next is something quite interesting and often painterly. I sometimes call what I do is "seeing the unseen" around me.
Technique:
This is where I talk about how I capture some of my photographs. I think it's more about the the lens than the camera. I am always looking at different old lens to see how they look when they joined together with new technology. I believe that shooting with manual focus enabled I'm able to see all the different planes of focus and most often arrive at images that captures more of an essences of natures beauty.
Training:
Self trained... Not really. I was given a gift at a very young age, to explore what I had to offer creatively. After some serious consideration I decided to not follow the life of a sculptor, and decided that I could fine my passion for art in the photographs I capture. Formally I studied at Brooks Institute of Photography and graduated with a major in commercial photography, and a minor in color technology. Soaked up lots during my time in school, but after getting out in the real world to find out how other photographers approached their craft helped form me today as a photographer.
