Nature: Honorable Mention 2016 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This photo was taken in La Palma (Canary Islands), at about 300m off the coast. Usually we have strong currents and big waves throughout the entire year, there is however a period of time (usually september/october) when the Ocean stays flat for about a week or two. We call it "Las Bonanzas" and it was during this period when I took the photo. I was taking a trip on a boat when I saw these two paddling towards me. Practising Paddle Surf so far off the coast would be considered very dangerous, but the Ocean was so flat that it allowed them to paddle as if they were on a lake. We immediately slowed the boat down and I waited until they passed by us. In the distance we can see the islands Tenerife and La Gomera, which belong to the Canarian Archipelago as well. It looked as if they were paddling between the two islands. I added a large part of the sky filled with these different types of white clouds, to add more contrast to the photo. I wanted to show how small we humans really are compared to nature all around us.
