ENTRY DESCRIPTION
It was a Saturday of a starting winter. I was walking with my camera around Sundsvall, a little city in Sweden, as always to break the routine of a study week, when I saw a serie of children playing in the middle of the historical place of Sundsvall. One of them jumped quickly onto a kind of "hanging circle" that I had never seen and I started to shoot. I did not want to have the classical street portrait, but something which expressed the sense of freedom and the lightness of this young lady touching the sky. I waited for the exact moment.

AUTHOR
Angela Varricchio was born in Benevento, Italy, in 1979.

In 2003, she took a Full-Honours Degree in Science of Communication at the Università degli Studi di Salerno, Italy, expounding an original thesis in Poetics and Rhetoric about the visual mechanisms of the photographic body persuasion in the U.N.H.C.R., Medics Without Borders, Amnesty International, UNICEF, Food and Agriculture Organization (F.A.O.) social photographies campaigns. Then, she attended an internship at the Communication and Development Department of E.N.P.A., an Italian no profit institute for the animal protection.

After having attended the Post-graduate specialization in ‘Media Content Product Management’, in 2005 Angela decided to start a Post-graduate specialization in ‘Photojournalism’ at Istituto Superiore di Fotografia e Comunicazione Integrata (I.S.F.C.I.), in Rome. During the post-graduate studies, she attended workshops with some French Magnum Photo photographers (Antoine D’Agata, Francesco Zizola, Patrick Zachmann) and with renowned freelance photographers, such as Angelo Turetta, Letizia Battaglia and Franco Zecchin. She also attended workshops with internationally famous reporters, such as Lina Pallotta and Morten Andersen.

Since 2007 Angela has been working a freelancer.

In 2011, she began teaching ‘Reportage and Naturalistic Photography’ and ‘Elements of Basic Photography’ at Scuola La Tecnica in Benevento. In 2012, she was elected as a Senior photographer in ‘Senior meets Junior – Reading of portfolios’, a national event organized by Tau Visual, Associazione Nazionale Fotografi Professionisti at Giu* Box Gallery in Napoli, in order to help young photographers improving their skills. In 2014, Angela was a Wedding Photojournalist Association Member .

At the end of August 2015, she started to attend the biennial Master of Arts in Photojournalism at the Mid Sweden University, in Sundsvall, Sweden.
