Portrait: Honorable Mention 2016 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The development of the ego begins after the child starts to recognize itself in the mirror (J.J.Lacan).
This recognition in the mirror is at the same time a misunderstanding and the beginning of an alienation. Later in youth this experience of “not to be world” is transformed into feelings.
The struggle for unity with itself has only just begun; because these stages of development can never be completely fulfilled or overcome and remain latent as a trace. Thus it is clear that a return to the „paradisiacal“ original primitiv state of unity is not possible.
Since I left home I have dealt intensely with ideas of identity and its relation to my past. Out of this self-reflection the series „ADAM“ has been created – over the last three years – (ongoing).
In this sense, ADAM can be understood as a portrait with autobiographical aspects.
