ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Sky Burial in West Sichuan, China
This picture is about the vultures involved in the sky burial, a funeral ritual where human corps are placed on a mountaintop to decompose while exposed to the elements or to be eaten by scavenging animals.
These animals (Eurasian Griffon) are huge in size, their wingspan can reach 3 meters and their weight varies from 7 to 15kg.
To take this picture I had to climb up on a mountain (more than 4100mt above sea level) and I could feel fatigue at every step due to the elevation. Few minutes after this picture was taken hundreds of vultures stated to take off and filled the sky ready to take part to a funeral at the bottom of the mountain.
