Wildlife: Honorable Mention 2016 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Polar bear (Ursus maritimus) sitting in a great chunk of kelp, deep in the tidal range of Hudson Bay, Wapusk National Park, which by this time of year should be developing sea ice. These bears prey mainly on seals who are only to be found amongst the breathing holes out on the ice, so they have to wait. Unfortunately, this wait is getting longer year after year...their odds are not good.
