Wildlife: Honorable Mention 2016 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I took this photo in front of Kerkini Lake, Greece. This is a murmuration, and it happens when thousands of starlings swoop and dive in the air, forming the most amazing drawings in the sky. There are many reasons for it, such as protecting themselves against predators, find food easily, and get warm during the night. But, whatever the explanation is, we can all agree that nature did it well with starlings. A murmuration is a sight that probably every photographer would like to witness.
I was in a place with a thick vegetation around the lake—easy to have a messy photo. But, being unable to photograph them in those incredible formations against the blue sky I decided to low my shutter speed and use the trees as my background. A fast thinking, which after some attempts gave me this image.
