Wildlife: Honorable Mention 2016 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Through careful use of two key elements; space and perspective, Anouk Masson Krantz has captured the magnificent scale and grandeur of Cumberland island’s dramatic scenery and its breathtaking wildlife as it has never been seen before. Embracing the island’s raw elements in all of its seasons; rain, wind, fog, storms and sunshine, she has created a body of work that delivers to the page the profound and varied emotions that the island so powerfully inspires. The simple, unconnected existence, where less is more and where an authentic, natural world provides the backdrop for a life well-lived as well as inspiration, love, acceptance and happiness. Over a decade, with patience and respect for the horses, she has captured the isolation and beauty of the wild horses where prime land is for the strong and the weak have to fight to survive. At the center of it all, Cumberland Island’s population of wild horses thrived in accordance with these principals, untouched for generations. Serving as a reflection of ourselves, these horses embody the purest of emotions and greatest elements of the human condition that we seek for ourselves each and every day.
