Architecture: Honorable Mention 2017 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
When night begins to brighten up, vapor rises to the surface of the lake.
That scene fantasizes the arch bridge of historic buildings.
Shooting on October 11,2015, Shimoboro in Hokkaido.
Taushubetsu arch bridge in Lake Nukabira. It is in danger of collapse.
Completion in 1937,Overall length 130 m, Height 10 m.
In 1939 The bridge was hung on the Taushubetsu River in order to open the Japan National Railway Shihoro Line.
In 1955, The Nukabira Dam, which is an artificial dam lake for power generation, was built and the surroundings of the bridge were to sink to the bottom of the lake, so the Shihoro Line was built in a different place avoiding the lake.
At that time, although the railway on the bridge was removed, the bridge itself was left in the lake and has remained in shape until now.
Lake Nukabira is an artificial lake, the water level changes dramatically due to the season and power generation, so there are times when the entire bridge is submerged, there are times when the water level gets lower and the whole bridge can be seen.
Water is stored from summer to autumn and it becomes almost full so that the bridge disappears before winter.
Lake Nukabira which was discharged for power generation in winter, the water level drops while keeping the frozen state.
And the bridge will reappear again from the ice surface.
From that appearance, it is also called "phantom bridge".
And in the spring, snow melts and disappears and it withers like these picture.
Then, thawing water is poured in, and eventually becomes an usual lake.
Every year, because it is repeatedly frozen and expanding, pressure is also applied from the inside, and it continues to collapse little by little even now.
