Architecture: Honorable Mention 2017 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Miramar beach (Vila Nova de Gaia - Portugal). The building is a church called "Senhor da Pedra". It was built on a rock near/in the sea in 1686. It is believed that the cult of origin in the "Lord of the Stone Chapel" may have originated from an ancient pagan cult, of naturalistic character, having subsequently been converted to Christianity.
AUTHOR
José Carlos Costa was born in August 1978, in Braga (Portugal). With a scientific background in Chemical and Biological Engineering, and a PhD at the University of Minho, he is Consultant at Innovayt. Photography was is chosen way of artistic expression, showing the world not as it is, but as he feels or interpret it, sometimes as a mystic black and white long exposure, and other times colorful as the seascapes or landscapes of Gerês. His favorite themes are urban and seascapes, architecture and travel, always exploring his favorite techniques, long exposures and a conversion to Black and White that gives a surreal atmosphere to the photos.
Since the end of 2014 he has participated in several photography contests and has received several medals and international awards and more than 40 photographs accepted/selected in international photo galleries organized by the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) and the American Society of Photography (PSA) . These distinctions cover several countries, including Belgium, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, France, Hungary, England, Wales, Portugal, Serbia and Turkey. In the last 3 years he has presented his work in 16 solo exhibitions, and several collective exhibitions, books and photo magazines (national and international).
