ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Meoto Iwa (夫婦岩) or the Married Couple Rocks, are a collection of small rocky stacks in the sea off Futami, Mie, Japan. They are joined by a shimenawa (a heavy rope of rice straw) and are considered sacred by worshippers at the neighboring Futami Okitama Shrine (Futami Okitama Jinja (二見興玉神社).
AUTHOR
I am a medically qualified doctor with a lifelong interest in photography. Over the last 40 years I have seen many changes in photography, but I feel the modern digital age has allowed me to express the photographic creativity that I first felt in the darkroom many years ago. My interest is in landscape photography, particularly minimalist black and white. I have been inspired by great proponents of this genre including Michael Kenna, Michael Levin, Rohan Reilly and Bruce Percy.
