ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I'm interested in human relationships to nature and animals, and how people often cherish facsimiles of animals.
I find taxidermy particularly interesting, it is often the only way we get close to a wild animal and touch its fur, feathers or scales. And sadly for some species, museum specimens are all that remain.
The reverence that is paid to a wild animal after it's death seems so paradoxical.
AUTHOR
I am an artist, project manager and creative practitioner and primarily work with photography and sound. I have been developing my photography over the past 4 years.
In my personal work I'm largely drawn to 2 broad themes: memory & narratives and personal and human relationships to natural world. In my approaches to these themes I aim to create images and series of images that offer opportunities for reflection & interpretation and for the viewer to create their own narratives: I prefer to hint or suggest, rather than tell. What lies beyond the plane of focus, or is obscured by shadow is often equally as important as what appears to be the focus of the image or what is revealed by light. Much of my work is in black and white.
