ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Taken low down in the Pinakothek Art Gallery, in Munich. I was drawn to the graphic lines in the image; the array of pictures on the wall behind and the strong lines of the ceiling. My patience was rewarded when a visitor to the gallery came walking past, close to me - I tripped the shutter and the picture came out as wished. A black and white favourite of mine.
AUTHOR
I was born in South Africa and am currently living and working in Switzerland. I have been taking pictures since 1968, when I was 10 years old – starting with a simple DIANA 620 plastic camera. Initially everything was processed for me through the local Pharmacy - later on I graduated to doing my own Black and White developing in a darkroom.
In my early days I liked doing Landscape Photography as well as Street Photography; I’ve retained my love of Street Photography. My style today, I would best describe as "opportunistic". I have, after many years, realized that I think graphically as a person. I read well and can dissect complicated things fairly well, but I do this at my best when I am presented them in graphic form (or mathematical form) because then I can, at a glance "see the whole picture", so to speak. Maybe this is why photography attracts me so much. Opportunistic to me in this sense, means taking the picture if it somehow resonates with my visual system at that instant. I like doing Portrait, Landscape, Street, Conceptual etc. So, it can be said that I have a less-clear photographic/artistic vision than a true artist.
I am simply opportunistic in my approach and take the picture if I like it visually; almost a spur-of-the-moment thing.
