AUTHOR
Helene Wallaert is self-taught photographer born in Belgium in 1966. She graduated as script-supervisor from the movie school INSAS in Brussels, worked for the Belgian and French television before getting her master degree and doctorate in Art History and Ethno-Archaeology from the Free University of Brussels. Her main focus was to study apprenticeship procedures in traditional communities perpetuating craftsmanship techniques thousand of years old.
She worked as researcher in ethnography in Cameroon among traditional potters and later on in New Mexico, USA among Native American craftsmen from the Pueblos. She exhibited her ethnographic photographic work in Belgium and in America.
Since 2011, she lives and work in Tanzania where she focuses on wildlife photography but also portraits of local communities.
