ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Mumbai will be the City with the biggest population of the world probably in 20 years. Now Mumbai has about 23 Million inhabitants, more than 6 millions are living in slums. But still Mumbai is the dreamcity of India.
In my work "architecture of the poor" I show how people are living there. I combine the ugly buildings with the unfocussed movement of the people who are living there
AUTHOR
Torsten Andreas Hoffmann is a photographer, author and also runs photoworkshops. He was born in Düsseldorf, Germany. He studied art education majoring in photography at the art college in Braunschweig. His photographic travels have taken him to India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nepal, Turkey, the USA, United Emirates and the Sahara Desert. His work has been shown at many individual and group exhibitions in advanced galleries, and over 20 books of his photographs have been published. He achieved international attention through his work of New York ( 3 books and art calendars ), specially through his silent approach about 9/11/2001, which was published in many magazines.
Since 2003 he has regularly written articles on picture design in international magazines.
His book "The art of black and white photography" was published in 6 languages, and got a nomination for the German Photobook Award.
His latest book "photography as meditation" relates photography to the Japanese Zen philosophy. It has got nomination for German Photobook Award too.
He works for big Project developement companies and good magazines.
His work is present in different German collections and museums.
He is a member of the Munich photographic agency "LOOK", The "BBK Frankfurt" and he was elected as a member of the German Photographic Association.
He lives near Frankfurt and Goslar, Germany
