Landscapes: 3rd Place Winner 2017 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
When gifted with the opportunity to pursue a career filled with travel, many things become mundane and lose their shock factor easily. This image was created on a wet, early spring day in 2015. For most, the normally eight hour drive from Denver, Colorado to Salt Lake City, Utah may seem like a daunting challenge, however, even in the circumstances that lengthened our drive to ten and a half hours, it was the least of my worries. I was in the midst of a national tour thirty-nine days in length spanning the width of the United States three times covering thirty-six states; All to be completed in a twelve passenger van pulling a trailer with hundreds of pounds of music equipment. Although several off days were scheduled throughout the run, we were in the long haul with thirteen shows in a row. Once we passed day ten they all blurred together like the white lines on the highway and one day was longer and more endless than the last. My main concern on this particular drive was sleep. However, when the driver called my name to wake me, and this view was the first thing I saw, I could feel my jaw unhinge, my eyes widen, and my heart skip a beat. My instinctual reaction came next and the camera was in my hand before my heart even started beating again. Moments after I captured this image my heavy eyes were closed again and I was quickly put back to sleep by the sound of the rain, gently falling on the windshield as the world passed by my passenger window.
AUTHOR
As a traveling photographer and writer in the music industry, I have previously partnered with several independent artists, publications, and record labels, throughout North America and Europe, over the past half decade. Although my professional portfolio consists primarily of performers and musicians, I retain an unwavering adoration for the natural beauty of the places I travel to and pass through along the way. It is a great hope of mine to acquire assignments in the future to specifically document the beauty, importance, and serenity of these natural places, both domestic and abroad.
