The mysterious landscapes of photographer Weldon Brewster harken back to the time of Pictorialism in the early twentieth century. With more influences in painting than photography the sculpted movement in his images stirs the imagination. Like the work of Wynn Bullock, Edward Steichen and Hiroshi Sugimoto there is a creation of a romantic reality that bears little resemblance to the scene in front of their cameras. Brewster says, “I’ve always been a bit feral, hiking in the mountains and surfing in the ocean. I love the planet in it’s raw untouched form. With my photographs I use aqueous vapors to create illusions of Jurassic mountain scenes.” Brewster has been a commercial photographer for over thirty years and has been commissioned by dozens of Fortune 500 companies.
