AUTHOR
I was born in a city in the south region of Brazil called Blumenau but I grew up in Rio de Janeiro.
Photography began fascinating me at the age of 15 and I managed to convince my father to get me a camera, my first Canon. It wasn’t the best camera but it worked. Back then there wasn’t any recognised photography schools in Rio, so I decided to study Journalism. It, of course, didn’t blow my mind but I had the chance to work at the photography lab inside the university and there I learned a lot. I started working as a photographer assistant afterwards but by 2007 when I graduate I thought it was time for a change and moved to Paris. I hated it. I took me 6 months to realise that so I took the chance and moved to Berlin. It never occurred to me that I would one day live in Germany but I thought what the heck. Berlin seemed much more open and that’s what I was looking for. I wanted to be in a city where I could be who I wanted to be. With no pressure of society no how we want you to be or behave.
I soon started learning German and two years after I moved I started studying Photography. Looking back I have a strong critical eye towards my school. It could have been much better. I struggled a lot, specially on the last year. I felt I wasn’t understood. My final project was a series of portraits of Brazilian people. They told me an important even that had happened to them and I put that into an image.
After finishing school I started working as a freelance photographer. I have been working on my own personal projects.
