ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Various fishermen, men and sometimes women of various ages who come together several times a month at Meia Praia in Lagos, Portugal, to perform the art of fishing called "Xávega".
The fishing vessel "José Fernando" belongs to José Glória, "Zé Bala" for the friends, Master of Art-Xávega in this zone.
The "Xávega" art is an endangered artisanal fishing system, which continues to express itself in Meia Praia, Lagos, where for more than 100 years the fishnet has been pulled by the arm and is still a means of life for some senior fishermen and an attraction for tourists.
First the boat goes to the sea, it surpasses the zone of the waves and then the men´s spreads the fish net. Then, while some slowly pull the net to land, others prepare already the next time.
When the fish arrives, the fishermen compete with the seagulls to catch him. That's why the process is fast and everyone contributes to the pack and divide into size categories. Most of the fish is horse mackerel.
