People: Honorable Mention 2017 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
An on-stage portrait of Folk rock artist Frank Turner performing in Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena on the 3rd July 2017, supporting Blink 182 on their 'California' tour.
Referencing a lyric from his track "Polaroid Picture" as the image title, he ponders the passage of time, the inevitably of change and the historic London Astoria which he was last to perform in before its closure and demolition in 2009). For an artist who has recently surpassed the two thousand mark for number of shows performed, he stands as one of many artists who remain committed to their practice and knows that his audience are one of his main priorities.
In a 2015 interview with Songfacts, he said that "Rock 'n' roll is an ethereal art form. It's about moments. It's about snapshots rather than oil paintings. It's about wild nights out rather than museums", personifying his care-free personality and insatiable desire for more which the majority of his fan-base also share.
AUTHOR
Growing up in an art orientated family, I developed an interest in art from a young age. Influences drip fed to me through my youth including the impact of my father’s own art work. Favouring photography to painting, I received my first camera at a young age and in 2010, finished an art foundation degree in the University of Glamorgan the previous year, going on to enroll in The Swansea metropolitan University. Graduating in July 2013 and earning his 'Photography In the arts' degree, I developed a passion for music photography.
Already being an enormous music fan, I began to write and photograph various shows across the UK, steadily climbing my way up to photograph larger shows/festivals such as Wild Life festival and have worked with/photographed some of the most interesting artists from every genre imaginable.
