Wildlife: Honorable Mention 2017 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
While sitting and waiting on a rocky outcrop at a waterhole in Etosha National Park, silently a black rhino appeared out of nowhere. The sun was setting and the reflected light from the sky illuminated in the water. An unmistakable shape appeared at the waterhole. This lone form cast on the water, only a reflection, is a daunting symbol for the troubled future of this species. The image was later rotated 180 degrees, giving the impression of the reflection being the Rhino itself, with the sunset and horizon below. Image captured in Etosha National Park, Northern Namibia.
With an estimated population of only 5000-5500 Black left in the wild, we are running out of time to protect this species from its possible impending extinction.
