ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This staircase is the main ascent for one the flak towers built 1942-1944 in Germany. Constructed in 300 days with 1,000 forced laborers, it is one of the largest bunkers ever built. It provided shelter during bombing raids for 25,000 people. Imagine this staircase, and back then it had no railing, filled with hundreds of refugees, huddling together, fearful for their lives, and yet hoping for survival and an end to the war
